Methodology

How we research UK heritage city breaks.

Our Editorial Philosophy

A good city day depends on what you love, the season and your budget. We describe museums, castles, tours and tea rooms from cited sources, then explain the trade-offs.

How We Choose What to Include

Recommendations consider these criteria and explain their limits:

  1. 1

    Visitor fit

Match the traveller, timing and the question the guide answers.

  2. 2

    What you get

Check what a ticket, tour or afternoon tea includes, including stated restrictions.

  3. 3

    Opening times

Distinguish published seasonal hours from live availability.

  4. 4

    Evidence

Cite factual claims and identify unsupported or uncertain details.

What We Don't Rank By

Understanding what we explicitly exclude matters for trust.

  • ✗Affiliate commission rates
  • ✗Paid placement
  • ✗Invented visits
  • ✗Unverified guarantees

Where Our Data Comes From

Our guides draw on these source types, in this order:

  1. 1. Museums, heritage bodies and venues

Official descriptions, opening hours, tickets and menus

  2. 2. Tourism boards

    City and regional visitor information

  3. 3. Attributed reporting

Published context with an identifiable source and date

Handling Uncertainty

When a source doesn't confirm a detail, the guide says so and points you to the venue page to check. We'd rather be clear about what is published than guess.
